On the Grind for Gemshows
There is always more to do. You will never feel fully ready. You will always have an idea you want to add or a thing you want to improve. But there is a method to the madness. A way to be prepared for gemshows in time.
The key is to success here is simple. Not joking, this is what you need.
To fill these cases. To have enough product and the right display with good presentation. Make things just one step at a time. I am serious so listen here!!
You will run yourself to burnout if you go, “I need earrings, necklaces, rings, displays, signs, and packaging.”
Do this instead!!!!
I need this ring 2 times. (The next day) I need this ring 2 times. (The next day) I need this ring 2 times. Some days you will have made 3 or 4 some you hit your 2 minimum. Then!! After 2 weeks thats a full case ready for the big show. Replicate for results.
The 4 steps and a secret 5th step!!
1: Simplify your process so it does not overwhelm you.
2: Allow yourself breathing room with realistic quotas that you can surpass when available.
3: Stick to needed tasks. Yes you need earrings and necklaces however finish your entire batch of necklaces before you destract yourself with another product line like earrings.
4: Prioritize your specialty. We are creatives and we love the art we make. If my main selling point is custom rings then I need to have that product line dialed in before I experiment with new things. I finish my rings I need for the show, then I experiment with earring types.
Last of all! Enjoy yourself, I take a break from jewelry with my blacksmithing. I also take a break from my blacksmithing with my jewelry. This helps keep me from feeling burnout so I can enjoy the work I produce to it's fullest.
